Experiencing a flashover

In firefighting, flashovers represent one of the greatest dangers for field personnel. In our flashover facility, students experience a flashover in real terms with all of their senses, so as to learn how to proceed safely even in extreme conditions of deployment.

Focuses of training in the flashover facility

In contrast to gas-fired systems, our flashover facility is wood-fired. This enables participants to experience the course of a fire from origination to flashover. They learn to recognise the signs of an imminent flashover, experience its effects and train in cooling techniques to prevent flashovers. The main points of the training are:
- Getting used to the heat
- Observation of thermodynamic processes, including a flashover
- Recognising the signs of an imminent flashover
- Firefighting techniques to prevent a flashover
- Technical and tactical training during firefighting
