Use teaching materials for your own training at home

What do firefighters need to bear in mind when responding to incidents in underground transport systems (UTS)? Answers to this question can be found in our specialist publications, teaching posters and leaflets for operations in railway tunnels, road tunnels, and underground car parks. These teaching materials aim to highlight the details that are relevant during deployment. We therefore recommend using our richly illustrated presentations for in-house training.

Photos don't have to be spectacular; they need to be relevant.

Photos are ideal for training the eye to spot relevant differences. What should firefighters pay attention to when entering a tunnel or underground car park? What safety installations are there? How do they differ? How can particular hazards be identified? Firefighters are already familiar with some of the images we have selected for our publications on these topics, as they have encountered them occasionally in their everyday work. However, the teaching materials encourage you to take a closer look and engage more intensively with the subject matter. Many photos also show details such as technical equipment that is not openly visible, for example, ventilation systems in the tunnel ceiling. They therefore provide helpful background information.

Supplement teaching materials with your own photos

Many of our photos are taken with special permission from tunnel operators or during inspections. The photo motifs shown are therefore not always accessible to firefighters in their everyday work. In accordance with the principle of «know your facility», we recommend that fire services take photos of «their» facilities during inspections and in consultation with tunnel operators, so that they can be used to supplement their in-house training.

Teaching materials are being continuously refined

Evaluations of incident reports and feedback from our courses are not only incorporated into the further development of our training programmes, but also into the visualisation of our training content. This year, for example, we have just revised the teaching posters for operations in road tunnels. The new posters, as well as all the others, can be downloaded in the «Knowledge» section of our website.

Registration to access the «Knowledge» section is free. The digital versions of all teaching posters and information sheets can also be used free of charge for in-house training.
